Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman Abraham Roman, was the 3rd child of the family. Her father, a carnival barker, died at the age of a tiny little girl. This forced her mother to provide for her family through work as a waitress and cleaning woman. Ruth grew in a poor Boston tenement community in Massachusetts. She was a student in Boston. She left school after two years in order to study acting. The path she chose to take turned out to be filled with challenges such as In New York, she obtained a job posing for stills in a magazine for crime However, the stage was not a match for her. The following job she got was an "hat check" girl for a nightclub before she gave up and moved back to Boston. The New England Repertory Company was the first job she had as an actor who was steady. The company paid her performing during the daytime in the ushering department. She also graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she studied drama.
