Ruth Roman was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, the third youngest daughter of Lithuanian-Jewish parents Mary Pauline (Gold) and Abraham Roman. When she was young her carnival barker father passed away which left Ruth's mother with no choice but to be a cleaning woman and waitress to support her family. Ruth was raised in a poor neighborhood of Boston Massachusetts in which she went to the school. In the midst of only two years in school, Ruth left to pursue the acting career. It was a difficult path to follow. Even though she got a job at a theatre in New York posing as a still for a mystery magazine but no theater jobs were offered to her. Then, after a stint as a club hat girl, she decided to return home and quit her position. In Boston, she worked to make the ends meet by working by working as an usher during the day while at night performing in the New England Repertory Company, her first regular acting gig. Her studies in drama led her to graduate in the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
