Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. The actress was the first child born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. When she was a young girl, Roman's carnival-barker father passed away in a tragic way, which forced her mother, Mary Pauline (Gold), to become an attendant or cleaner in order for them to be able to survive. Ruth attended school, and grew up poor in Boston Massachusetts the tenement districts. She left the school she attended after only two years to pursue acting as a profession. The path she chose was filled with challenges. After landing a gig as a model in New York as a model for a magazine that dealt with detectives, she had a difficult time trying to get opportunities in the stage. After that, she was the hat checker in the nightclub before calling it quits and returning to Boston. She was in Boston in which she was employed during the evening as an actor for the New England Repertory Company and during the day as an usherette. She took classes in drama in the Bishop-Lee Theatre School and graduated.
