Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman is the third child of the family. When she was a young girl, Roman's carnival-barker father died, which made her mother Mary Pauline (Gold) to work as a waitress or cleaner so that they could survive. Ruth was born in a poor area of Boston Massachusetts where she enrolled in school. But she quit school after just two years of school to pursue an acting career. Her chosen path proved to be fraught with difficulties and in New York, she obtained an opportunity to pose for stills in a magazine for crime However, the stage was not a match for her. In New York, she was employed at a bar, as the check-in lady before resigning before moving to Boston. In the New England Repertory Company was her first gig as a regular actor. The company paid her performing during the daytime in the ushering department. Drama studies led her to graduate in the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
