Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter of Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. As a young girl her father was a carnival barker which left Ruth's mother with no choice but to work as a cleaning girl and waitress to support her family. Ruth was raised in a poor neighborhood of Boston Massachusetts in which she went to school. She quit school in just two years in order to study acting. The path she chose to take turned out to be fraught with difficulties: In New York, she obtained an opportunity to pose for stills for a crime magazine however, theatrical opportunities eluded her. Then, she worked as an hat-checker at an evening club, before deciding to call the shots and moving back to Boston. It was the New England Repertory Company was the first job she had as an actor who was steady. Earned money working during the day working as an Usherette. She received a master's diploma in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
