Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 at Lynn Massachusetts. The actress is the eldest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. In her early years, Ruth Roman's father, a carnival barker, passed away, which forced her mother, Mary Pauline (Gold) to work as cleaner or waitress to help them remain alive. Ruth was a student at the school located in Boston's poorest tenement area. The school she was attending within two years of her education in pursuit of the profession of acting. The path was difficult to follow. Although she got an interview at a theatre in New York posing as a woman for a magazine but no theater jobs were offered to her. The following job she got was a "hat check" lady at a club but she quit and moved back to Boston. In the New England Repertory Company was the first position she held as a regular actor. The company paid her doing shifts during the day, as an usherette. She was a drama student at the Bishop-Lee Theatre School and graduated.
